A Dinner Party

Well, not quite a party, exactly. Just Robyn and Chris Borough and us. But we got to seat four at the table and eat David's fantastic casserole off big white plates, with proper serviettes and proper wine glasses. See? It is possible. I even wore lippy and earrings. It was great to see them, en route from Bairnsdale where they had been the previous day.

They allowed themselves to be talked into staying an extra day, so we spent it exploring the back blocks of Pambula and Merimbula. Interspersed, naturally with liberal visits to coffee shops, starting with Mark Bolsius's Booktique in Merimbula. Didn't talk long with Mark, he was busy making coffees for the throng who were, in the middle of winter, packing his place out. And no wonder, it is a characterful combination bookshop (by partner Michelle) and coffee place, with musical touches such as old piano frames in the fit out. Good coffee too.

Found another possible block, again with dark granite soil and native grasses, this time no trees to complicate matters, and something of a view to the north. A gentle slope and good solar access. Lots of kangaroos on site, going "who the hell are you?" before bounding indignantly right under the fencing. Apparently we were disturbing their munchies.

Also on site, a crescent of mushrooms. Was this a good omen or what? We picked some to cook up for breakfast.
