Today we exited Mackay and on the way, passed the restaurant of our dreams. How inviting it looks!
Seaforth is just north of Mackay, and we had thought we might camp in the Esplanade campground, but it looked really full of families with children on school holidays, so we fled.
The beaches in this area really do not compare with those in NSW, sorry to sound parochial, but there you have it. The Seaforth marine stinger enclosure, complete with coca cola detritus, David is down at the "surf" end.
This is serious sugar country, here is a young plantation on the Mt Ossa-Seaforth road
Here is some mature cane on the Proserpine Road'
We also passed plantations of coffee, mango, macadamia, avocados and, guess what? Tomatoes! I had to restrain David from leaping out of the car and running through the paddock. Imagine acres of tomatoes, just out there in the fresh air, by the side of the road. Never seen that before.
Here's something to gladden the hearts of the little boy inside us all.
Tonight we are in "Home Hill" in a layby. Tomorrow: Townsville.
