Mandy, Aaron and Cohen

Great to see friends Mandy and Aaron in Townsville, and meet baby Cohen, aged 10 months.

David and Mandy have worked together at a couple of schools. We met for a stroll on the Strand, and it emerged after a few questions that Aaron had been dragged away from That grand final, the one that the PM said: Don't let it be a draw, the country couldn't stand it! So we repaired to a pub, where the final awful moments were playing on every screen.  After that, there was nothing for it but to drown the sorrows in a beer, then go have some fish and chips.

It was great to see you guys, and don't forget about coming to Melbourne some time to stay in our apartment that is walking distance from the MCG.  Maybe next year your team will do it!

We've figured something out about the tropics. Night time is when everyone comes out to play. After dark, The Strand is fabulously well lit, and full of people. This is the jetty, kitted out in LCD footlights, with Castle Hill, actually floodlit, in the background.

And this is one of the netted and floodlit beaches. We went and stood in the water, it was weird.  Too warm, no waves and kind of soupy and cloudy. Guess I'm used to beaches where night-time swimming is out of the question, too dark, too wild and too many Noah's on the prowl.
