A good call - day 4

A decision had to be made this morning - pack up, or stay another night?  No access to weather reports, so it was guess and God help us. We packed up. Spent the morning on a walk to Basin Lake.  This one is a "window" lake. Delightful shady, sandy track traversing various forest types and slowly climbing to a little jewel of lake, a "window" into the water table below it. It was deserted, so of course, it had to be dipped into.

A raft of palm leaves helps one put one's shoes back on without the ever-present pure, fine white sand...

This walk was a real highlight of our stay. Recommended.

By lunchtime the grey cloud above was knitting and brooding.  We pointed Rover toward the ferry, stopping only to look more closely at one of the scores of little freshwater creeks that traverse the sand highway on their way to the sea.  All flowing with pure fresh water that had been filtering for hundreds, if not thousands of years. The dingoes know all about this fresh water.

By the time we reached the ferry it was bucketing. We scuttled on board, shedding sand left and right, then wham, bam, and we were back to reality on the mainland.

A full underbody car wash and rust treatment later, and we retrieved Clover from her locked yard, then headed to Carlo Point, exhausted.
