Big Crystal Creek campground is in the Paluma Range National Park. Queensland really looks after its National Park visitors. The campgrounds are cheap and well maintained, usually with good clean facilities and beautifully sited in some stunning locations.
I hate to have to tell you this, but David has become a convert to skinny dipping, and has learned how to leap into any body of water that presents itself, no need for towel or swimmers, just get dressed again! We have been skinny dipping every day, sometimes twice a day in different locations. The water in these mountain areas is so clear you can easily see your feet.
On the road in, there was a stall selling jackfruit. Enormous creatures they were, and smelled ripe, so we bought one and gave it a ride on the front seat of the car.
Later we invited our French and German neighbours in the campground to join us in an experimental jackfruit tasting, none of us having any idea how to deal with the things and Google was out of range. After several champagnes David grandly sliced it through the middle and revealed a disturbing interior comprising a thick core of gluey latex type material, surrounded by huge pale seeds stuck in a matrix of faintly rubbery stuff, some of which was just, sort of, edible. The latex-type stuff adhered to everything: moustaches, knives, lips, the table, and it could not be removed by washing or by baby wipes. We concluded that the mysterious pleasures of jackfruit had somehow eluded us, and threw the remains down the creek behind the van. They remained there, untouched for the rest of our stay. Apparently the wildlife knew better than we did.
