Have you met our navigator, Nigel? He's a British chap of minority sexual preference, by the sound of him, so it's not surprising that when we get to big cities, he gets so excited and distracted that he just goes to pieces. For example, coming out of the underground parking at our Melbourne place, he doesn't get out of bed and start navigating us until we are well past the crucial intersections around City Road. My theory is that he's spent the night in the gay bars and just can't wake up. Anyway, today he had to get us to Linda's place in Surry Hills, right in the middle of Sydney.
Things went well on the freeway en route from Hallidays Point to the outskirts of Sydney. Some of our fellow travelers seemed to have no sense of their own safety, such as this one travelling at breakneck speed and seriously overloaded in a stiff headwind, but we survived.
It's quite spectacular scenery on the freeway.
The Hornsby turn off came up by early afternoon.
Dropped in on Peter and Marjory for a coffee and rock cakes, plus a smooch with Charlie. Then it was off to the city, where things started to go awry in Nigel's head. His directions became cryptic and started coming too late, and he kept disappearing for what he calls "replanning" so we ended up slowly proceeding down George street, with the pedestrians and the buses and taxis, not an ideal route.
By the end of George Street, this is what David and I looked like.
But we eventually made it to Surry Hills. Kirstin and Nate came over and we all had some of James' wonderful home made chicken and corn soup for dinner.
Tomorrow, the appointment with David's surgeon. David and I have both had awful colds and he is still taking all kinds of medications: echinacea, antibiotics, vitamins, codral, fish oil, glucosamine, basically anything that might help. People are being very kind, feeding us (thanks, Robyn and Chris) and giving us their bedroom (thanks Linda and Phil) and phoning and sending messages (thanks everyone). Your caring support means a lot.
