Terrible morning-after syndrome on Sunday. Nothing to do with the strawberry daiquiri at the pub the night before, everything to do with the shattering non-outcome of the election. Both of us feeling vaguely aggrieved and thwarted, and suspicious of all other possible voters we spotted in case they had been so weak minded that their gullible heads were turned by The Other Side.
Decided some retail therapy was in order to take our minds off our troubles and fortunately, the Bangalow market was on. Bangalow is dreadful. Here's an example of just how dreadful it is.
And here's another example:
And another, the most dreadful of all:
Give me down to there hair, shoulder length or longer, here baby, there momma, everywhere daddy daddy, HAIR!
There were some truly magnificent dreadies. Lots and lots of them, on shiny happy people. We had a great time at Bangalow market, bought some presents, listened to a good band doing all kinds of covers from Lou Reed to U2 to Latin, and ate some good organic veggo food, but without the exrtas. We weren't sure what the exrtas were.
Feeling suitably revitalised and uplifted we spent the afternoon doing the Lighthouse walk in Byron Bay. This is highly recommended, especially at this time of year, when you will see whales coming back from warmer northern waters with their newborn calves. We saw them in their tens, not just one or two. It was amazing, humbling, moving.
At Watego Beach there was a festival atmosphere and remember this is August, the coldest month of the year. People swimming, kayaking and on their surfboards, the whales just out there in the bay, circling. People on the shore laughing, making music, oohing at the whales and generally having this glorious pleasure seeking life. Aah, Byron Bay. Sunday night we ate out for a treat, at Fish Heads Cafe on the waterfront. It was very good. David's favourite dish was the Oyster Shot. This involves an oyster, tomato juice, lime and black pepper, all in a shot glass. My favourite was the affogato. Which did not keep me awake, nothing would have, after that full day!
