Feverish activity on the house. Feverish! Make houses while the sun shines is the motto round here. I go off to work and David visits the site and talks to the builders and takes photos and generally has all the fun! But I no complain. Things are moving along at a clipping pace.
(Above) This will be the main living room. You can see the solar gain spilling in from the north. Too much? Will we roast? Will we need sunglasses inside all day? Perhaps.
Scrappy the builder's lovely little dog, chooses an ideal sunny spot to snooze, in the doorway to the outdoor terrace on the northern side. I suspect this will become a favourite cat place, in the fullness of time.
From her vantage point, Scrappy is keeping an eye on Cliff and Ryan's progress on the rock walls. "Stone is the future", Cliff's business slogan says. Already the rock walls are attracting more attention than the house, just like he said they would. Cliff is working like a demon. Anzac Day he was there, Saturdays too. The walls are looking beautiful.
Cladding of the exterior has begun in places.
From the top corner of the land, you can see the roof with the four skylights in it.
One day we went over there with our samples of tiles, to see them in situ. These are the bathroom floor tiles - sort of slatey effect in taupes and greys. Rough textured so when we become old fogeys, well that is to say, older fogeys, we will be less likely to go A over T in the bathroom.
Meanwhile, life goes on in the rest of Halliday's Point. The grass just never stops growing around here, and it's always so blissfully, blessedly, beautifully green. After all those years of struggling, straggling stringy brown turf in Canberra, this is the restful, relaxing, rejuvenating landscape we craved. You can never have too much alliteration in literature, don't you agree?
The saga of the roadworks. An extended trial of our driving patience and forbearance is represented here on Blackhead Road (our local arterial). It has gone on for months now, so long that the inner Delhi-driver is coming out in all the locals. People scoot through on the red and launch forth at the other end on the red, thundering through the potholes at a cracking pace well above 40. Don't tell the wallopers.
The council appears to be throwing its entire roadworks budget at this stretch, so many phases and stages and drains and layers have they done. Surely it will be a thing to marvel at when completed and no doubt will be the only forever-pothole-free piece of road in the entire Greater Taree Council area. People will come from everywhere just to marvel at it, just to drive for a full 300m with no potholes. None.
Meanwhile back at the house, the windows have been installed,
and startling blue sarking covers the frames, preparatory to exterior sheeting being installed. Christo was 'ere.
Here is the distance view from the...glade? The stand of trees? The future rainforest? The bit with trees in, anyway.
Last picture is me at the edge of the dam, wearing a cardigan. Yes, it's finally getting cool enough for cardigans occasionally. I hear Canberra had -3 degrees this morning.
