House galloping along

This is another update on the house build process.  It's galloping along. The wiring has been installed, the interior insulation is mostly in place, and the exterior cladding is nearly finished.  Next step will be the interior sheeting. Here's some photos.

This is the house as visible from the road, taken from a little to the left of the driveway. It was Friday, a wet day and this is the only house under construction with Waylyn Homes that has a roof, so the entire crew was here. The interior resembled a bee hive with all these yellow and black shirted workers buzzing around, and the noise was amazing.

 (Above) now for a walk around the exterior, starting at the front of the house, you can see the garage opening, and to the right, the front door is in.

You are now looking at the north east corner of the building, garage opening to far left, studio in front of you and kitchen, lounge, dining to the right.

This is the north facing side of the building, with lots of windows for solar gain. It is late morning in late autumn and the sun is flooding into the main living areas. Studio door to the far left, on the lower level, other windows to David's left are kitchen then dining/lounge windows. To his right is the main bedroom window.

This is the west face of the building, from high on the block.  As you can see the house has been dug in quite a lot. This area faces the back fence and has the back door in the middle.  This will become the service courtyard, with clothesline, water tanks, gas bottles and so on. Not a lot of windows.

(Above) This is the south west corner of the building, taken from under the trees in that corner of the block.  The dam is to the right of this picture.

This is the south face of the building, which looks at the dam. Your bedroom windows, should you decide to come and visit, are to the left of this picture; in the middle is where the big deck will be built for lazing about in the shade on hot summer days and to the right is the garage. Your lap of the house is now complete!

Its been raining a little and visits to the house require appropriate footwear.

We do have gumboots, but they, like lots of other useful things, are in storage.  I am a bit sick of living with minimal kit but we've nearly forgotten all the stuff we have stored. When we get it all out of storage, will we wonder why we kept most of it?

Interior insulation is a new recycled and sustainable product Knauf "Earth wool"

 Studio bathroom adjoins a foundation wall and our choice of vanity has caused all sorts of trouble.  The pipes have had to be chased into the wall. This was a tricky one, says the young plumber.

 Finished result, no cracks in the wall visible.  So far, so good.

This exterior shot shows the metal finishing edge being used on those spiffy sharp angles of the building. Some have suggested leaving the finish just like this, concrete colour and brass stripping. Nup. It will be rendered and painted. You can see all kinds of plumbing and electrical stuff coming out of this wall, to be connected later to hot water storage and solar collection tanks, rain water, sensor spotlights and whatnot.  It gets seriously boggy around here, being cut right down into the clay, so drainage pits and pipes have been installed and it will be mostly concreted.
