Khappinghat Nature Reserve

Lovely little explore of our local region today. Khappinghat Nature Reserve is quite close to where we will be living at Diamond Beach, and its border is formed by Khappinghat Creek. Bit of interesting dirt road driving to get there. Or I should say almost there, as we walked the last 200m or so as the dirt road got a bit too interesting, ie submerged.  We decided discretion was the better part of valour.

The creek level was way, way up, very scenic. The water is brackish, tea coloured.

David declined to go for a swim, so I decided just to have a little paddle...

But, one thing led to another and pretty soon...

This Nature Reserve is full of beautiful paperbarks, some peeling great sheets of writing paper off themselves.

Lots of birds, flowers, little holes dug by critters. Found a couple of natural jewels, a vibrant bug...

and some glowing red resin. It really was that colour, I don't tweek the colour in my photos.

Back at the campsite, we are getting more organised about the nightly sunset show. Tonight's festivities involved a Tatachilla sauvignon blanc semillon, and some fresh oysters with lime.

And here it is, tonight's effort. This was taken late in the show, when the last glow was turning the sky and the water all kinds of reds and purples.
