Architecture

The sun dipped under the horizon and our spirits dipped as well, on getting feedback and comment about the sketch plan for our house, from our polymathic friend Chris, as well as Linda and Phil, two of our family architects. The verdict is unanimous: not enough northerly orientation. Everyone says, get this right and don't compromise too much on what you want, it's your house.

So it's back to the drawing board.

Thursday night I hardly slept at all. All night, rooms and angles and contours and views churned around in my brain.  Friday we met up with Linda and Phil, who have come to spend a long weekend at Treachery Bay near Seal Rocks about 40 minutes south of Forster. They admired the block and began talking like architects do, in terms of functional spaces, joining elements and the possibility of a house built on piers over the top of the dam.  But I think they were joking about that idea.

Turns out Phil is very familiar with the Forster area, having holidayed here quite a lot. He told us about a Glenn Murcutt house just nearby, so we went to admire it.

We had a pretty good meal at the Halliday's Point Bowlo, then a walk on pretty "back beach" nearby.

All these local haunts are on our discovery trail. It should be fun getting into this community and learning what it has to offer. This is Friday night's sunset shot, taken from the little beach behind the bowling club that Phil took us to.
