Day 29: 21 March 2010 Leaving Latrobe

This is our final day in Tasmania. The historic Lucas hotel in Latrobe gave us a fair meal and a fair night's sleep, but Tasmania's final treat was the little platypus in the creek immediately behind the hotel. David saw it frisking around in the early morning water as we were leaving at dawn. But by the time I got there five minutes later, it had de-materialised, as they do.

We went back to Anvers chocolate factory for breakfast and it was just as good as it had been on Day 1. Then it was on to the ferry. A good day to be leaving Tasmania: drizzle, wind. Out in the Bass Strait there was a heaving 4 metre swell, the wind blowing loudly, the rain horizontal. Not very pleasant, but we sustained by the thought of dinner with daughter Lian and Matt, in Melbourne tonight.

A fitting name for the restaurant by the way: "Coda". It was very, very good.

This is the end of the first section of our journey to see Australia, and the end, for the time being, of the daily blog. We will be on-line again around May. Hope to see you then.
