Manly Fairy

After the sculpture exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Sydney, we still had nearly a whole afternoon available for more Playing Around in Sydney before our evening flight to Melbourne. Peter suggested the Manly Fairy. So off we went!

Love this juxtaposition of little old Sydney ferry and big new international floating hotel, with The Bridge in the background.

We passed all the big ticket sites. The Bridge, The Opera House, Lady Macquarie's Chair, Garden Island, HMAS Sydney.

Sitting up the front of the ferry in the open air, with a stiff wind blowing the hair straight back in a stylish fashion.

This is Manly, our destination.

We had time for an ice cream, a promenade up the promenade, a bit of a look at the enormous range of Havianas on sale, a giggle at the seagulls making free with the stylish little fountains that completely line the promenade,

and a quick look at Manly Beach. I couldn't see anything particularly masculine about it, so I don't know what all the fuss is about.

On the return trip I snapped this gorgeous silhouette of an old sailing vessel (below) and the bridge. Had to shoulder a few tourists aside to get the shot, but it was worth it.

I assume this is some kind of tourist craft as it was full of people wildly waving and taking photos of us, on the ferry, wildly waving back.

The Sydney skyline as you approach Circular Quay is quite a sight.

This final shot shows Anish Kapoor's round "Sky Mirror" from the best perspective - a couple of hundred metres away on the harbour, from a boat. There it is, the sky, the picture moving and transforming with the changing of the clouds and the shifting of your own position. Beautiful.
