Mae's chemo is over

Mae's long, hard chemotherapy program is over. She started her final cycle on the last day of February and now, she is beginning the slow climb back to what we all dearly hope will be a state of strength and health. I am so proud of her and also of Nick for the way in which they have dealt with this horror so far.  Mae recently posted this on Facebook and I am sharing it on my blog, with her permission, because it touched me so deeply and it is just a beautifully expressed statement.

So, in Mae's own words:

"Yay! So after six months of fortnightly poisoning (12 cycles!) I have finally officially FINISHED CHEMO! So now hopefully begins the crawl back to normality. It's been a hard time for us lately, Nick & I have experienced so much we never expected to have to deal with in our lives, horrible uncertainty, months & months of illness, grief at losing the chance to have children, shock, terrifying news followed by previously unimaginable pain and of course, the ever constant, ever present fear.... but we also had the rare opportunity to discover who we really are, gained a new found perspective on the world and found in ourselves courage we never knew we had, we've done amazing things, been surrounded by love and met some truly inspiring and incredible people. This experience has changed us, made us stronger and enabled us to grow. The fight's not over. It will never be over and we will never be able to feel safe as due to how much it spread originally the probability of it coming back is depressingly high. However for now we are standing strong, feeling good and making the most of what we can. Thank you to all the amazing people who have been supporting us along the way. It's still on, cancer, it's still on and until the last breath, no matter what else is thrown at us we are NEVER giving up >={ Here's hoping for a better year."

And you might like to watch this video that she also posted with her message.  Warning: it may make you cry.
