300 posts

Not the number of fence posts we will need - the fences were already in when we bought this block. What the title signifies is that today's post is number 300! I do enjoy writing my online web-log and it makes a kind of life diary for us as well as being a way of keeping friends and family in touch with our news. Sometimes I look back over past posts and it helps me remember all kinds of trivia that my forgettery type brain would otherwise dispense with.

We are reaching the end of the build process that I have been faithfully documenting all this year. Today, a crew of concretors arrived to make the concrete pad next to the garage. Here they are, looking as muscly and dangerous as concrete crews always do.  But actually, nice local chaps with families and big smiles.

But this is a worry. A wet patch that could be a spring or a broken pipe. Dealing with excess water is a challenge in this area. Our friend Chris advises strongly that earthworks will need to happen to prevent the dam overtopping in a big rain event.

Also today, the TV aerial was installed. So we might be able to watch Rake tonight! Still no washing machine or heater/cooling unit. Hopefully tomorrow the last little plumbing, electrical, building and painting jobs will be complete. But bad news about the flyscreens, which will have to be replaced with metal ones at ruinous expense. It seems no-one, not us, not the window company nor the builder realised there was a proviso on the Bushfire report stating this and mesh ones have already been installed. The building inspector picked it up. So we grit our teeth and borrow a bit more money, having used up all the proceeds of the sale of the Fadden house already. No wonder I'm waking up at night.

News on Mae is good today.  She and Nick have been in Sydney for a follow-up appointment with her surgeon from St George Hospital. He was pleased and says she is doing really well. She sounds quite like her old self, what a relief.  Long may this last. Chemotherapy to get through, starting in less than two weeks. We plan to be back in Canberra for the start of that, but unlikely to get there any sooner as house things are still happening and we don't want to not be here while work is being done.
