Our Christmas day was really enjoyable. The preparations hard work, but worth it. I had to laugh at the fruit markets the day before, feeling solidarity with one of the stall holders "I've come over all Bah Humbug. Don't talk to me" he said. We spent the morning cooking in our tiny kitchen, I did the canapes and dessert, David did the mains. Close quarters, just as well we're married. Worst moment was throwing away the third batch of incinerated rye bread crisps while we worked out how the oven functioned, and repaired the temperature gauge, on the run.
Here is the menu:
Hors d'oeuvres
Coffin Bay Oysters natural, with lemon
Tasmanian smoked salmon on pumpernickel, with dill infused cream cheese and lime
Prawns dressed with tomato/chili (red) or Basil/nut(green), on oat crisps
Egg and caviar on rice crackers with coriander garnish
Raddichio parcels with Kangaroo Island Haloumi and Christmas chutney
Main Course
Poached salmon fillet with lime, tarragon and chili mayonnaise, served with cos lettuce, tomato and mango
Barbecued marinated eye fillet served with red wine mushroom sauce
Pommes Dauphinoise
Steamed snow peas
Tomato chili pie
Dessert
Pavlova with strawberries, mangoes, grapes, kiwi, banana and passionfruit
Coffee and Tea
Our guests brought wonderful wines, Christmas cake, macaroons and chocolates.
Here is our day in pictures.
And here is a poem expressing the true meaning of Christmas. This was posted outside Lian and Matt's apartment in a display case. By "first dog on the moon".
