But for some of us, there isn't a choice. Booze, food and fun are taking second place to a real battle for life. The chemo suite was absolutely choc a bloc last week. All stations occupied, one of them by Mae. She has just passed chemo number seven of twelve. This is her array of infusions. So far, so good. She will have a break now, until 31 December. But she isn't feeling up to any travel so we won't be seeing her at Diamond Beach for Christmas. Nor Lian, she's going to the in-laws, nor Julian who is off to USA on 27th, nor Lindsey who will be with her other parents up in Queensland. But Wim is saving the day and letting us feel like Christmas parents. He's coming with Akinyi and Akinyi's Mum.
Canberra is looking brown and bone dry. I love these wire sheep at Kambah shops. Mae tells me they get Christmas hats every year.
This time we stayed with Anna and Frank at Lyneham. They have a dear old cat, Possum. Here she investigates the forbidden interior of the family pizza oven. Don't tell Frank.
We had hoped to dig up half their lovely garden, put it in pots and take it back to Diamond Beach. But it was not to be. This haul came from another friend's garden, but plans to "do" Anna's garden were thwarted by Bad Boy Rover pulling one of his stunts. An urgent replacement of four tyres plus wheel alignment suddenly became necessary, so the gardening morning was spent in cafes, waiting. Waiting. Fingering the credit card anxiously. More waiting.
This (above) is one of the cafes. Great coffee. Having an attack of nervous thrift, so didn't buy anything else....
Left Canberra at 1pm and got home to Diamond Beach (above) in time to breathe in the early evening sea spray. Aahh.
The next day, it's back to work on the new house. David assumes the position.
At home, grass, lots of it. Soothing, lush, relaxing greens. A contrast to the sparse brown straggling dry land grasses of the ACT. Hmm. Lush greens growing about a foot per day. Out with the mower again. Fortunately David loves a bit of pootling about on his mower.
We are starting to find a community here. This is the Christmas party we were at last night, with a bunch of local musos. This is Company of Voices. Should we join? Actually, I doubt my voice is good enough...
Final rather artistic shot is of the final orchid bloom from an arrangement sent us when we moved in. Over three months of value there! I enclose this because it appeals to my newly found sense of thrift.
